Lunar Magic is an editor for Super Mario World, originally released by FuSoYa in September 2000. It's considered to be one of the most powerful ROM hacking tools ever released.

The current version is 1.63, released on September 24, 2005. Further updates will only be provided if any fatal bugs are found.

[edit] ROM Locking

Lunar Magic has a feature to lock hacks from ever being opened in Lunar Magic again. Instead of just enabling a bit, it does in fact encrypt the levels. However, this is discouraged by a few people because:

  • Locking the hack doesn't help anybody, and may hurt you if you lose an unlocked version
  • Locking the hack only makes it ten seconds longer to open it, with the help of RLM
