[edit] Split this article?
Anyone care to split this into a couple of subpages? ~Grey Mario
- I say nay - the Help Page is small enough and deserves to stick together. With the current text we have now, separate pages look stupid and redundant. - Prince Kassad, 08/14/06, 10:21:00 (GMT+1)
- Yeah, but why put info about making templates amidst more basic stuff like putting the template onto a page? ~Grey Mario
- If the article is split after all, I (or somebody else) should at least improve it so it doesn't look copy-&-pasted (just a reminder). -- Prince Kassad, 08/14/06, 20:13:56 (GMT+1)

[edit] Commonly used templates
I hope nobody misses this - I just removed it because I think this is of no use. If anyone wants another try, we could try a more extensive list or something. -- Prince Kassad, 08/14/06, 20:35:01 (GMT+1)

- >_> It also says to check the help file on Wikipedia itself on the front page. Also, nobody's made any commonly asked questions. So there aren't any. Nobody apparently cares about this either... --Tatrion 18:50, 14 June 2006 (PDT)
- Thank you, mystery editor whose name I don't feel like loading the history page to find out, you have made the world a better place by making my crap into a real FAQ and not being lazy like I was. 69.251.204.239 14:08, 15 June 2006 (PDT)
[edit] Questions
- Is it normal that when I try to create a new template via <includeonly> and <noinclude>, the preview only shows 'Template:TemplateName'? -- 84.169.223.102 11:57, 17 June 2006 (PDT)
- It is normal - the preview doesn't work with such templates. -- 84.169.223.102 12:55, 17 June 2006 (PDT)
- You have to put {{TemplateName}} under the <noinclude> tag. ~Grey Mario
- No, doesn't work - due to an oversight in MediaWiki code, templates will always be loaded from the main database, even if you happen to edit such a template (the problem only applies to templates with <includeonly> and <noinclude>, because the other templates are directly processed like a normal page). This makes the 'Preview' function nonfunctional for such templates, since the template either doesn't show up at all (when it doesn't exist yet), or the version you're editing shows up instead of the new one (when you're editing an existing template). Trust me, this problem has caused quite a headache for Xk when he was creating his 'User Infobox' template. -- 84.177.241.205 00:39, 8 August 2006 (PDT)
- This is what the SAVE CHANGES button is for. But whatever. ~Grey Mario
