AcmlmWiki:Project Category
From AcmlmWiki
This is the main page for Project Category.
In Project Category, we're trying to give all of the uncategorized pages categories. It's actually pretty basic.

[edit] Method
[edit] Uncategorized pages
Search Special:Uncategorizedpages or Category:Pages that need categorization for any pages that are similar to each other. You will also want to look in Category:Stubs, because several stub articles are only included in that category, and need proper categorization too. Once you find pages that relate to each other, categorize them! To do this, add this somewhere in the article (preferably at the bottom, for cleanliness); [[Category:Category Name]]. Obviously, you should replace "Category Name" with a proper category name. Here's an example:
- You see some similar uncategorized pages; Ask Anya, Ask Danielle, Ask Elmo, Ask Grey, Ask Manda, and Ask Xkeeper. To categorize them all together, put something like [[Category:Ask a user topics]] at the bottom.
[edit] Pre-categorized pages
Some pages have categories already; but they can be either be lacking some important ones, or have categories that aren't relevant to it, because of the early disorganization of the wiki. If you stumble across one of these, just fix it.
[edit] Unsure
If you are unsure of what categories to put in for an article, use the template {{uncat}}. It will put a message on the article calling for it to be categorized and will put it in Category:Pages that need categorization.
[edit] Why...?
Giving pages categories improves the quality of the wiki; someone can jump from a article about one topic to another, similar topic without having to sort through a bulky "See also" section. It's cleaner, basically.
[edit] Joining
Joining Project Category is very easy. To mark yourself as a member, simply put the userbox at AcmlmWiki:Project Category/userbox on your userpage. Set it by copy/pasting everything between the quotes: "{{AcmlmWiki:Project Category/userbox}}". You will want to set up a table to hold your userboxes; they cannot align themselves correctly without one. If you don't want the userbox, you can instead put Category:Members of Project Category.
You can also introduce yourself if you want on the talk page of this project, but its not neccessary.
[edit] Awards
People who have done a lot for Project Category can receive an award that they can display on their userpage... if we can get someone to design an award for them. Don't worry about this too much though; contributing is its own reward ;)
[edit] Concerns
Any comments about this project should go into the talk page. If something you think is critical is left out, just bring it up. We'll be happy to fix it.
